Kendrick Lamar is always offering his critiques on how to be a better country and even a better person through his notable lyrics and songs. In XXX., Lamar brings up the social justice issues of gun violence, gang violence, corruption on Wall Street and other businesses, and many other issues. I think his main critique is that there needs to be more discussions about what is really happening in our country. There also needs to be more awareness spread about these things as well as openness to changing some part of the country we know.  There is a long verse (verse 3) towards the end of the song where Lamar lists off many negative issues occurring every day. This verse is shown here:

Hail Mary, Jesus and Joseph
The great American flag is wrapped in drag with explosives
Compulsive disorder, sons and daughters
Barricaded blocks and borders

Look what you taught us!
It’s murder on my street, your street, back streets
Wall Street, corporate offices
Banks, employees, and bosses with
Homicidal thoughts; Donald Trump’s in office
We lost Barack and promised to never doubt him again

But is America honest, or do we bask in sin?
Pass the gin, I mix it with American blood

Then bash him in, you Crippin’ or you married to Blood?
I’ll ask again—oops, accident
It’s nasty when you set us up
Then roll the dice, then bet us up
You overnight the big rifles, then tell Fox to be scared of us
Gang members or terrorists, et cetera, et cetera
America’s reflections of me, that’s what a mirror does

Looking at a specific example, Lamar sets a scene where he discusses gun control in his song by saying:

Alright, kids, we’re gonna talk about gun control
(Pray for me) Damn!

I think this is his critique on America’s approach to gun control. He basically describes a scene where he is about to make a presentation to a group of kids about gun control. Lamar is saying here that we need to have more open conversations about gun control. He is also stating that we need to teach young kids about the issues that our country and many others are facing. There needs to be more awareness spread and Lamar is doing just that by including this topic in his song.
